We always welcome new members whether you are a mother or father of a child with restricted growth, a professional working with someone who has restricted growth, or you are a person of restricted growth yourself. Visit the 'About the RGA' Section for more information about how we can support you.
In 1970 the RGA, then known as ARRG (Association of Research into Restricted Growth) was formed. In 2010 we would like to make the 40th anniversary a milestone for the rebirth of the Restricted Growth Association.
Over the years there have been many advances in medicine and diagnosis of restricted growth conditions, many led or influenced by the association and similar charities around the world. It is unfortunate however that families still struggle to get information and support from outside agencies.
In 2003 the RGA held a meeting with government ministers at Westminster and as a result, people with restricted growth now have some legal rights in respect of disability legislation. We continue to raise the profile that our members deserve the same rights as all other citizens of the UK. We are currently running a media campaign against common use of the 'M' word on the TV and in other British Media (see 'Press Releases')
As with all voluntary associations, finance is a growing issue. In 2010 we will need to look to alternative methods of raising funds to continue the hard work and effort of our members. If you can spare any time to raise much needed funds for the RGA, then please do let us know. All donations and fundraising activities go to supporting the aims of the RGA and are very much appreciated by all members.
We have adopted two new tags for 2010 - 'Life begins at 40' and 'Small Steps, Big Achievements'. We feel that these reflect our objectives and the 40th year and we're already looking forward to celebrating the RGA's 50th in 2020!
Happy 40th
